Can the Charlotte 49ers Bounce Back After Moody Coliseum Setback?

The Charlotte 49ers faced a challenging contest at Moody Coliseum, ending with a score of 66-54 in favor of the SMU Mustangs. The 49ers' season record now stands at an unmentioned number, while the Mustangs have also not disclosed their season tally. The first half concluded with the Mustangs leading by eight points, and they maintained their advantage throughout the second half to secure victory.

The game was marked by intense competition, with both teams showing strong defensive efforts. The Charlotte 49ers managed to block three shots and steal the ball five times. However, they struggled offensively, converting only 34 percent of their field goal attempts and shooting just 30 percent from beyond the arc. Despite these challenges, they fought hard in the paint to score 20 points.

Rebounding was a significant factor in this matchup; the Charlotte team grabbed a total of 31 rebounds—22 defensive and eight offensive—while adding one more from team efforts. Their free throw performance hovered around average as they made twelve out of nineteen attempts for a free throw percentage of roughly 63 percent.

On offense, assists were distributed effectively among players as evidenced by their twelve assists on eighteen made field goals. Yet turnovers proved costly for them; eleven player turnovers contributed to only three points off turnovers for themselves.

Contrastingly, SMU showed greater efficiency on both ends of the court. They capitalized on their opportunities by scoring fifteen second-chance points and ten points off turnovers due to seven steals and fewer overall turnovers than their opponents.

As fans look ahead after this tough loss on foreign ground, attention turns back home where hope springs eternal at Dale F. Halton Arena in Charlotte. The next challenge awaits when Florida Atlantic Owls visit on January 6th at 4:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
