The Duke Blue Devils entered Purcell Pavilion with determination and it showed on the court. Despite shooting only 36 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc, they secured crucial rebounds and executed timely plays. The team's tenacity was evident as they grabbed 40 total rebounds, with a significant contribution coming from their defensive efforts which accounted for 28 of those boards.

Offensively, free throws were a saving grace for Duke as they capitalized on these opportunities by converting them at an impressive rate of 81 percent. This proficiency from the line proved vital in maintaining their lead throughout the game. Additionally, Duke's defense shone through with nine steals and four blocks, disrupting Notre Dame's rhythm and contributing to their overall edge.

The Fighting Irish put up a resilient fight but were hampered by lower shooting percentages across all fronts compared to Duke – managing only 39 percent field goal accuracy and making just half of their free throw attempts. Their effort on second-chance points was notable though; they scored 14 compared to Duke’s five.

A key aspect that worked in favor of the Blue Devils was points off turnovers; they scored an impressive total of 18 points following turnovers by Notre Dame who had more giveaways at fourteen against eleven by Duke. The assist-to-turnover ratio also reflected better decision-making by Duke players who posted a ratio close to one.

As both teams battled fiercely through two halves, it was ultimately the consistency and clutch performance from free throws that helped seal victory for Duke against Notre Dame’s spirited challenge.

Looking ahead, fans can catch the next game featuring the Duke Blue Devils as they face off against Pittsburgh Panthers at Petersen Events Center located in Pittsburgh PA on January 9th at 9:00 PM Eastern Time. This upcoming matchup will be broadcast nationally on ESPN channel number two hundred six for those eager to follow along live.
