Fresno State Bulldogs Outpaced by New Mexico Lobos at The Pit

The Fresno State Bulldogs, with a record of 0-0, faced off against the New Mexico Lobos and were defeated with a final score of 58-79. The Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, scoring only 24 points compared to the Lobos' 37. Despite a more productive second half where they added 34 points to their tally, it was not enough to close the gap.

The Bulldogs' performance was hindered by shooting challenges; they made only 18 out of 55 field goal attempts, resulting in a modest field goal percentage of 33 percent. From beyond the arc, they managed to convert just seven out of twenty-six three-point attempts, finishing with a three-point shooting percentage of 27 percent. However, they excelled at free throw accuracy with an impressive rate of 75 percent by sinking fifteen out of twenty attempts.

Defensively, Fresno State collected thirty-five total rebounds but were overshadowed by New Mexico's fifty-four. The team's effort included four offensive and thirty-one defensive rebounds. They also recorded three blocks and five steals during the game but committed fourteen personal fouls and eleven turnovers.

On offense, Fresno State saw contributions across various metrics: ten assists reflected some teamwork on court but were overshadowed by ten player turnovers; eighteen points came from inside the paint; fast break situations resulted in fourteen points for them; however, they could only capitalize on four points off turnovers.

Comparatively speaking about their opponents for over twenty percent as required: The New Mexico Lobos demonstrated strong defense with ten blocks and seven steals while committing fewer personal fouls than Fresno State at thirteen. Their offensive play was more effective as well – converting thirty out of seventy-nine field goals (38 percent) and nine out of twenty-nine from three-point range (31 percent). They also dominated second-chance opportunities scoring twenty points from such plays.
