Will Houston Cougars' Dominance Continue After Decisive Victory Over Longwood Lancers?

The Houston Cougars, ranked second nationally, delivered a commanding performance against the unranked Longwood Lancers with a final score of 86-46. The Cougars now stand with an impressive record, while the Lancers face a setback in their season's tally.

From the opening tip-off at FedExForum in Memphis, the Houston Cougars established control and never looked back. The first half saw them rack up 43 points to the Lancers' 16. Matching their first-half intensity, they mirrored this performance in the second half with another 43 points. This defensive pressure contributed to a staggering number of turnovers by Longwood – eighteen in total – which translated into twenty-five points for Houston off those turnovers.

Houston's teamwork shone through with sixteen assists leading to well-executed plays and high-percentage shots that were pivotal in building their lead. Their assist-to-turnover ratio stood at two, doubling that of their opponents'. Moreover, dominating inside play led to forty points in paint for Houston compared to fourteen by Longwood.


On individual performances, every player who stepped onto court seemed to contribute significantly to this comprehensive team victory for Houston. In contrast, despite shooting an exceptional ninety-four percent from free-throw line and making fifteen out of sixteen attempts, Longwood struggled overall with just thirty-four percent shooting from field goals.

The rebounding battle was also won decisively by Houston who collected twenty-nine rebounds including ten offensive boards which helped them secure fourteen second-chance points. Meanwhile, Longwood managed only eighteen rebounds throughout game time.
