First Half

The first half saw both teams trading leads and showcasing their offensive prowess. The Cougars managed to put up an impressive 40 points, largely thanks to their efficient shooting from beyond the arc, hitting 35 percent of their three-point attempts. Kingston Flemings led the charge with his sharp shooting and contributed significantly to keeping Houston competitive.

However, it was Iowa State's ability to capitalize on turnovers that gave them an edge in this period. The Cyclones scored crucial points off turnovers and maintained a slight lead by halftime with a score of 43-40.

Second Half

In the second half, defense became paramount as both teams tightened up their play. The Coogs struggled slightly with foul trouble, committing a total of 21 fouls throughout the game which allowed ISU more opportunities at free throws despite only converting them at a rate of 50 percent.

Joseph Tugler stood out defensively for Houston with his three blocks but it was not enough to stifle Iowa State's persistent attack inside the paint where they scored most effectively.
