The State Farm Center in Champaign was alive with excitement as the Illinois Fighting Illini showcased their dominance on both ends of the court. With a total rebound count of 50 compared to the Panthers' 40, and five blocks to their two, it was clear that physicality and control under the basket were key factors in this matchup. The home team also capitalized on turnovers, scoring eight points off Panther mistakes.

The Fighting Illini's shooting prowess was on full display as they sank half of their field goal attempts and made ten three-pointers at a rate of 31 percent. Their free throw performance hovered around average with just over half making it through the hoop. On defense, they matched Eastern Illinois in steals but committed fewer personal fouls with only thirteen against twenty-two from their opponents.

Eastern Illinois struggled to find their rhythm offensively throughout the game. They managed only a 29 percent success rate from field goals and were less effective from beyond the arc compared to inside it; however, they did manage to convert four out of eleven three-point shots for a slightly better percentage than two-pointers.

Despite these challenges for Eastern Illinois, they showed tenacity in second-chance points where they edged out with fourteen against thirteen by Illinois. They also fought hard under their own basket securing ten offensive rebounds which contributed significantly to those second-chance efforts.
