The assists column told a story of teamwork for the home side; they doubled that of their opponents with an assist turnover ratio that far exceeded that of Valparaiso's less efficient ratio. This cohesive playmaking was instrumental to building and maintaining their lead throughout.


Valparaiso struggled to find consistency in shooting throughout both halves but managed to put up a fight initially with more points scored before halftime than after it. Despite valiant defensive efforts resulting in seven blocks and keeping personal fouls relatively low compared to other games this season, it wasn't enough for Valparaiso against an energized Illinois squad who maintained control from start to finish.
