At Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Fighting Illini showcased their dominance on both ends of the court. The team's robust defense was highlighted by five blocks and two steals, contributing to their overall aggressive play. Offensively, Illinois displayed efficiency inside the paint with 38 points in that area alone and maintained a solid two-point shooting percentage at 49 percent.

The rebounding battle was decisively won by Illinois as they gathered an outstanding total of 50 rebounds compared to Iowa's 33. This included an impressive haul of defensive rebounds by Illinois with a count of 37 which helped limit second-chance opportunities for the Hawkeyes.

Illinois also excelled in fast-break situations scoring 14 fast break points which played a significant role in setting the tempo and keeping pressure on Iowa throughout the game. Despite committing more turnovers (12) than their opponents (5), Illinois managed to maintain control due largely to their ability to convert those turnovers into points effectively.

On individual performances for Illinois, it was truly a team effort as multiple players contributed across various aspects of the game from scoring to rebounding and assists. Their free throw shooting did leave room for improvement at only 60 percent but this did not significantly impact their path to victory.

The Hawkeyes tried valiantly to keep pace with fast break points tallying up at an impressive count of 21 but struggled with field goal accuracy ending up with just a mere shooting percentage from both two-point range (36 percent) and overall field goals (35 percent). They were slightly better from beyond the arc hitting seven out three-point attempts translating into a three-point percentage rounding off at about one-third successful shots.
