Can the Hawkeyes Bounce Back After Xfinity Center Setback Against Terrapins?

The Iowa Hawkeyes faced a challenging contest at the Xfinity Center, falling to the Maryland Terrapins with a final score of 78-66. The Hawkeyes now stand with an additional loss to their record, while the Terrapins have notched another victory. Despite a strong start by Iowa in the first half, leading with 37 points against Maryland's 31, they couldn't maintain their momentum and were outscored in the second half.

Iowa Hawkeyes VS Maryland Terrapins

The Hawkeyes demonstrated resilience throughout the game. They managed to block five shots and steal possession four times from their opponents. Their offensive efforts were notable as well; they scored 28 points in the paint and capitalized on turnovers by adding another 18 points to their tally. The team's free throw accuracy was decent at 67 percent, converting eight out of twelve attempts.

Iowa's performance from beyond the arc left room for improvement as they shot at a rate of only 27 percent, making six three-pointers on twenty-two attempts. Inside shooting was more effective for them with a two-point field goal percentage standing at 48 percent as they made twenty out of forty-two attempts.

On defense, Iowa gathered ten offensive rebounds which contributed to eleven second-chance points but it wasn't enough against Maryland's robust rebounding that secured thirty-seven boards overall – ten more than Iowa’s total rebounds count of twenty-nine.

The Terrapins showed strong discipline and execution throughout both halves but particularly shone after halftime where they scored forty-seven points compared to their first-half total of thirty-one. They displayed superior shooting efficiency across all metrics: sixty percent from two-point range, forty-eight percent overall field goal percentage and an impressive eighty-three percent from the free-throw line.

Maryland also excelled in scoring within close range; forty points came from inside work underpinning their dominance in this area over Iowa who managed twenty-eight paint points. Furthermore, despite committing eleven turnovers themselves – just two more than Iowa – Maryland ensured these did not heavily impact them by limiting Iowa’s conversion into just eighteen turnover-derived points while scoring twelve off turnovers themselves.

Looking ahead for fans of The Hawkeyes is an opportunity for redemption when they host Wisconsin Badgers at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on February 17th at 1:15 PM local time (2:15 PM Eastern). This upcoming game will be broadcast nationally on BTN channel number six hundred ten where supporters can follow if The Hawkeyes can turn around recent fortunes on home soil.
