The game took place at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas, where a crowd of 10,105 spectators witnessed the Cyclones' dominance on both ends of the court. Iowa State's offense was particularly effective; they shot an impressive 54 percent from the field and an exceptional 62 percent from two-point range. Their three-point attempts were also noteworthy with a solid conversion rate of 38 percent.

This facilitated scoring opportunities that led to them amassing a substantial total of points in paint (36), which underscored their control under the basket. Defensively, Iowa State was just as formidable. They pulled down a total of 36 rebounds—26 defensive and seven offensive—showing their ability to control possession and limit second-chance opportunities for Baylor. The team's defensive efforts also included six steals and one block.

On the other side of the court, despite being outplayed by Iowa State in several statistical categories, Baylor showed resilience throughout the game. They managed to convert ten three-pointers and fought hard for every point scored inside (14). However, their overall field goal percentage stood at only around 36 percent—a stark contrast to Iowa State's efficiency.

Baylor's defense did manage to match Iowa State with one block each but fell short on steals with only three compared to six by their opponents. Both teams committed equal personal fouls (18) but it was clear that Iowa State better utilized these opportunities given their higher free throw percentage (68).
