In front of a passionate crowd at James H. Hilton Coliseum, the Cyclones demonstrated resilience and tactical acumen to overcome a first-half deficit. Initially trailing with only 27 points compared to the Cougars' 38 in the first half, the home team rallied back with an explosive second half, scoring 41 points to secure their win.

The defensive efforts of both teams were notable throughout the game. The Cyclones managed to block four shots and steal possession ten times from their opponents. These critical defensive plays contributed significantly to their ability to control the game's tempo and ultimately led them to victory.

Offensively, Iowa State showed determination despite shooting only 37 percent from field goals overall and making six out of eighteen three-point attempts for a three-point percentage of 33 percent. Their effort on two-point attempts was more fruitful as they made nineteen out of fifty shots which translates into a two-points percentage of 38 percent.

Free throws were also crucial for Iowa State as they made twelve free throws out of eighteen attempts at a rate of approximately sixty-seven percent. Additionally, they capitalized on turnovers by scoring eighteen points off turnovers compared to nine by BYU.

BYU's performance was marked by solid rebounding with forty-five total rebounds including thirty-one defensive ones but it wasn't enough against an aggressive Cyclone defense that forced seventeen turnovers while committing only six themselves – showcasing superior ball handling reflected in an assists turnover ratio difference (1.83 for ISU vs. BYU's 0.76).

The upcoming schedule sees Iowa State Cyclones traveling away from home turf as they prepare to face Kansas State Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan on March 9th at noon Central Time (1:00 PM Eastern).
