The game, held at Imperial Arena in Nassau, was not without its highlights for the Kansas faithful. Despite a challenging night offensively with an overall field goal percentage of just 32 and three-point shooting languishing at around 24 percent, Kansas managed to convert on nearly 65 percent of their free throws. The team's defensive efforts yielded eleven steals and contributed significantly to their twenty-one points off turnovers.

Kansas' offensive rebounds reached double figures with ten boards contributing to eight second-chance points. However, they struggled from within the paint and beyond the arc compared to their usual standards. The Jayhawks' two-point attempts were met with staunch resistance as they made only twelve out of thirty-two shots taken from this range.

The Volunteers presented a formidable challenge throughout the game. They capitalized on their opportunities by maintaining a higher field goal percentage of approximately 42 percent and excelled particularly from three-point land where they shot an impressive 44 percent. Tennessee also demonstrated proficiency from the free-throw line by sinking eight out of ten attempts.

Tennessee's rebounding was dominant; they out-rebounded Kansas with forty-five total rebounds including twelve offensive rebounds which led to sixteen second-chance points. Their defense blocked four shots and kept pressure on Kansas' offense all night long.
