The game saw the Kentucky Wildcats put up a resilient fight on their home court. Despite trailing in the first half with 32 points to South Carolina's 42, they managed to outscore their opponents in the second half by four points. However, this was not enough to secure victory as they fell short by three points overall.

Kentucky's performance was marked by impressive shooting accuracy from within the two-point range, where they made 26 out of 47 attempts, translating into a solid 55 percent success rate. They also dominated in points scored from turnovers with an outstanding total of 20 compared to South Carolina's nine. The Wildcats' defense was formidable as well; they blocked six shots and stole possession six times throughout the game.

On offense, Kentucky managed to surpass South Carolina in terms of points scored inside the paint with a total of 32 against their opponent's 26. However, struggles from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line were apparent for Kentucky; they only converted three out of ten three-point attempts and made seven out of fourteen free throws.

The Gamecocks showcased strong offensive skills as well; notably excelling in three-point shooting where they hit an impressive eleven out of twenty attempts – achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of about fifty-five percent. Their second-chance point efforts were also noteworthy as they accumulated twenty-one such points during play.

South Carolina’s rebounding effort contributed significantly to their win; securing thirty-two rebounds including eleven offensive boards which provided them additional scoring opportunities. Their defensive prowess was evident too – limiting turnovers and effectively converting those committed by Kentucky into nine valuable points.
