The Wildcats started strong, putting up 35 points to Oakland's 38 in the first half. Despite trailing, they managed to outscore their opponents by four points in paint during the game, finishing with a total of 32 points from close range. Kentucky's shooting from within the arc was notably efficient; they made an impressive 52 percent of their two-point attempts.

Kentucky also showcased their defensive skills with six blocks and two steals throughout the contest. However, ball control seemed to be an issue for them as they turned over possession eleven times compared to Oakland's seven turnovers. This discrepancy was reflected in points off turnovers where Kentucky only managed five points while allowing twelve.

On offense, Kentucky distributed well with seventeen assists but had a lower assist-to-turnover ratio than Oakland at 1.55 compared to Oakland's more efficient ratio of 2.67. From beyond the arc, Kentucky struggled slightly with a three-point shooting percentage of just 32 percent making nine out of twenty-eight attempts.

Oakland capitalized on their opportunities from downtown hitting fifteen three-pointers and achieving an impressive three-point shooting percentage of forty-eight percent which proved crucial in their victory over Kentucky.

In terms of rebounds, both teams were almost even; however, it was here that Kentucky showed tenacity on offensive boards grabbing ten rebounds leading to eighteen second-chance points – more than triple what Oakland managed.

Despite these efforts and leading scorer contributions from both sides – including free throws where Kentucky excelled making fifteen out of twenty attempts (75 percent) – it wasn't enough for them to secure victory as time ran out at PPG Paints Arena without any remaining timeouts for either team.
