Liberty Flames Face Off Against Cougars at FAU Arena
In a recent men's basketball game held at the FAU Arena, the Liberty Flames faced a challenging opponent in the Charleston Cougars. The game ended with a score of 76-67, marking another contest in their respective records. The Liberty Flames now stand with an additional loss to their record, while the Charleston Cougars added another win.
The Liberty Flames put up a valiant effort throughout the match. Despite trailing behind, they managed to secure 67 points against their opponents' 76. In terms of scoring by halves, the Flames garnered 33 points in the first and improved slightly with 34 in the second half. Their offensive efforts were led by impressive three-point shooting where they made 10 out of 31 attempts which translates to a three-point percentage of approximately 32 percent.
Defensively, however, it was a tough night for the Liberty team as they struggled to contain Charleston's offense which boasted nearly a 60 percent success rate from two-point range and an overall field goal percentage of around 49 percent. The Cougars also excelled in capitalizing on fast breaks scoring an impressive total of 17 fast break points.
The rebounding battle was narrowly won by Charleston who collected a total of 39 rebounds compared to Liberty's tally of 36. On defense specifically, both teams were almost neck-and-neck but ultimately it was Charleston who edged out with one more defensive rebound than Liberty's count at around seven o'clock.
On top of that, turnovers played a critical role; while both teams had double-digit turnovers—11 for Liberty and nine for Charleston—the Cougars managed more points off those turnovers totaling ten compared to eight by Liberty.
Despite these challenges, there were bright spots for the Flames fans as their team showed resilience on court and managed six steals over Charleston’s four and provided more assists with eleven against eight from their opponents.
Looking ahead after this encounter at FAU Arena, fans can anticipate seeing their team back in action when they host Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at home in Lynchburg’s own Liberty Arena on December fifth at seven o'clock PM Eastern Time.
