Flames' Effort Scorched by Panthers at Ocean Bank Convocation Center

The Liberty Flames, with a record of 0-0, faced off against the Florida International Panthers in a heated contest that ended with the Flames scoring 71 to the Panthers' 76. Despite a valiant effort, the Flames could not secure victory on the road.


Florida International Panthers VS Liberty Flames

In an intense matchup at Ocean Bank Convocation Center, the Liberty Flames showcased their offensive capabilities but fell short against a resilient Florida International Panthers team. The Flames managed to accumulate 71 points throughout the game, demonstrating their scoring ability with an impressive field goal percentage of 48 and converting eight out of twenty attempts from beyond the arc for a solid three-point shooting performance at forty percent.


The first half saw the Flames put up thirty-four points while maintaining defensive pressure that resulted in two steals and three blocks. Their efforts inside were notable as they scored thirty-six points in paint and grabbed five offensive rebounds contributing to six second-chance points. However, despite these efforts, they trailed by three points entering halftime.


Liberty's players continued to push forward in the second half adding another thirty-seven points to their tally. They showed resilience under pressure but were unable to overcome personal fouls which totaled thirteen by game's end and one player being fouled out. The team's free throw accuracy was evident as they made nine out of thirteen attempts translating into sixty-nine percent from the line.


On defense, Liberty collected twenty-three defensive rebounds but struggled slightly with nine blocked shots against them which hindered some scoring opportunities. The team also had difficulty containing Florida International's offense which managed seventy-six total points including forty-four within paint showcasing their dominance close to basket.


Florida International capitalized on turnovers scoring sixteen points off Liberty’s nine turnovers while also excelling in rebounding with thirty-eight total rebounds compared to Liberty’s thirty-one. Their defense was formidable; blocking nine shots and making four steals throughout this conference game where both teams fought hard leading to eight ties and thirteen lead changes before time expired.


Looking ahead for Liberty fans, there is an opportunity for redemption as The Liberty Flames will host New Mexico State Aggies at Liberty Arena located in Lynchburg VA on February 29th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
