Cardinals' Rally Falls Short Against Syracuse Orange in a Close Encounter

The Louisville Cardinals, after a hard-fought battle, fell to the Syracuse Orange with a final score of 82-76. The Cardinals now stand at an even record, while the Orange improved their tally. The game saw the teams tied twice and experienced four lead changes before reaching its conclusion.

In front of 11,011 fans at the KFC Yum! Center, the home team Cardinals displayed resilience but couldn't overcome the visiting Syracuse Orange's offensive surge. Despite trailing with only 28 points to Syracuse's 39 in the first half, Louisville mounted a significant comeback in the second half by adding 48 points to their total. However, it wasn't enough to surpass Syracuse's consistent scoring effort that added another 43 points after halftime.


The Cardinals showed strength inside with an impressive display of scoring in paint totaling 44 points compared to Syracuse's 32. Their free throw accuracy was notable as well; they made good on 80 percent from the line by sinking 16 out of their total attempts. On defense, they managed eight steals and blocked four shots from their opponents.


Louisville also edged out Syracuse on rebounds with a total count of 34 against their opponent’s tally of just under that number at 31. They were particularly effective on offensive boards where they grabbed nine rebounds which contributed significantly to their second-chance point opportunities totaling ten.


Syracuse’s performance was highlighted by efficient shooting as they hit an impressive field goal percentage at around three-fifths mark and were successful on over half of their two-point attempts. From beyond the arc, they shot an exceptional rate hitting five out of eight attempts which translated into a three-point shooting percentage above sixty.


Despite committing one more turnover than Syracuse who had fourteen turnovers overall compared to Louisville’s thirteen turnovers for this game - it was personal fouls where Louisville struggled most significantly accumulating twenty-seven personal fouls over course game leading two players being fouled out.
