First Half

The first half saw both teams battling fiercely, but it was the Bayou Bengals who took a slight edge with a 47-44 lead. Marquel Sutton made significant contributions early on, scoring crucial points and grabbing rebounds that kept the Tigers ahead. Dedan Thomas Jr.'s playmaking abilities were evident as he dished out key assists that set up his teammates for easy baskets.

Second Half

In the second half, LSU extended their lead through efficient shooting and solid defense. The team shot an impressive 62 percent from the field overall. Max Mackinnon was particularly effective from beyond the arc, hitting several three-pointers that widened the gap between them and SMU. The Ponies struggled to keep up as LSU's defense tightened its grip, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities.

Key Performances

Marquel Sutton stood out with his double-double performance of 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Dedan Thomas Jr.'s all-around game included scoring 16 points along with providing vital assists and steals. On the defensive end, Pablo Tamba's presence was felt as he contributed significantly to blocking shots and securing rebounds.

For SMU, despite their efforts led by strong performances in points in paint scoring (38) and bench contributions (20), they couldn't overcome LSU's relentless attack in transition plays which resulted in numerous fast-break points for Geaux Tigers.

As part of our post-game report LSU Tigers analysis reveals what went wrong for LSU Tigers during brief lapses when they allowed SMU to close gaps; however, these were quickly rectified by timely adjustments from coaching staff ensuring control remained firmly within Tiger hands throughout most of this encounter.
