Davidson Wildcats Edge Maryland Terrapins at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville in Men's Basketball

In a closely contested game at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, the Davidson Wildcats overcame the Maryland Terrapins with a final score of 64-61. The Terrapins' season record now stands at 0-1, while the Wildcats improve to 1-0.

The Maryland Terrapins fought valiantly against their opponents. Despite trailing by one point after the first half, they managed to put up an impressive defensive performance with five blocks and eight steals throughout the game. The team's effort on rebounds was notable as well, securing a total of 38 rebounds compared to Davidson's 36. Offensively, Maryland saw success in two-point shots with a completion rate of 44 percent but struggled from beyond the arc, making only five out of twenty-three three-point attempts.


The offensive rebounds were particularly strong for the Terrapins; they grabbed fourteen compared to Davidson's eight. This hustle translated into fourteen second-chance points for Maryland. Additionally, both teams scored sixteen points off turnovers but it was not enough for Maryland to secure victory.


On Davidson's side, their three-point shooting was remarkable as they hit eight out of fifteen attempts which translates to an impressive accuracy rate of 53 percent from long range. Their free throw percentage stood at 67 percent with fourteen successful shots from twenty-one attempts.


The Wildcats also demonstrated solid teamwork with fifteen assists and kept their personal fouls count lower than that of their opponents', committing eighteen fouls over Maryland’s twenty-one.
