The Maryland Terrapins demonstrated exceptional teamwork and strategic gameplay throughout the match. With an impressive tally of 19 assists, they outmaneuvered the Illinois defense, finding open shots and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Their defensive efforts were equally noteworthy, amassing 12 steals which disrupted the Fighting Illini's offensive flow and contributed to 22 points off turnovers.


Rodney Rice emerged as a standout performer for Maryland, leading with 26 points. His shooting accuracy was remarkable; he achieved a 67 percent field goal percentage and was especially lethal from beyond the arc, hitting 78 percent of his three-point attempts. Derik Queen also made significant contributions with a double-double consisting of 19 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing his dominance on both ends of the court.


Illinois Efforts


Despite facing challenges against Maryland's robust defense, Illinois showed resilience. They managed to secure more total rebounds than Maryland at 47 compared to Maryland's 38 but struggled with turnovers which limited their scoring opportunities. The Fighting Illini's efficiency from two-point range stood at 47 percent but faltered from three-point territory at only 22 percent accuracy.
