Memphis Tigers and Austin Peay Governors Set for Basketball Battle at FedExForum

As the Memphis Tigers prepare to host the Austin Peay Governors at FedExForum, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an electrifying game of men's basketball. The recent performance of the Memphis Tigers suggests that they are in prime position to dominate against Austin Peay. In their last game on December 16 against Clemson, where both teams were tied six times and saw nine lead changes, MEM showed remarkable resilience and a strong finish with a two-point victory (79-77). Their impressive second-half surge was characterized by a 61 percent shooting from inside the arc and a commendable free throw percentage of 74 percent. Moreover, their defensive prowess was on display as they racked up nine steals and limited turnovers to just six.

In contrast, while analyzing Austin Peay Governors' recent outings isn't possible without specific data here, it is well-known that any team stepping into FedExForum must contend with not only MEM's tactical acumen but also an electrifying atmosphere that often propels the home side to greater heights.

One aspect where MEM could improve is their three-point shooting which stood at just 15 percent during their last outing. However, this may not be as critical against PEAY if they can maintain dominance in paint scoring (44 points against Clemson) and second-chance points (14 points), which have been significant contributors to their victories.

Looking back further into December 10th’s away game versus Texas A&M Aggies – ranked 21st at that time – MEM showcased an ability to perform under pressure by securing another close win (81-75). Their field goal percentage was nearly 50 percent overall with a notable performance beyond the arc hitting almost 41 percent of three-pointers. This level of offensive efficiency combined with aggressive defense that forced turnovers leading directly to points will be key factors in overcoming PEAY.

MEM fans should also take heart from the overtime victory over VCU Rams on December 7th. The team displayed tenacity by pushing through extra time for an exhilarating five-point win (85-80). This kind of grit will undoubtedly serve them well going forward.

With these performances in mind, it seems clear that if MEM maintains its high level of play within FedExForum’s walls – particularly focusing on strong defense leading into fast-break opportunities – there is every reason for fans to expect another win added onto this season’s tally come New Year’s Eve.

Tigers supporters should mark their calendars for December 31st when Memphis takes on Austin Peay Governors right here in Memphis at FedExForum. Tip-off is set for midnight Central Time; however you can catch all action live via ESPN+ online broadcast network. Don't miss out as your Tigers aim to close out the year with yet another thrilling victory!
