At the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, a packed house witnessed the Wolverines start strong with an impressive first half performance that saw them rack up 36 points to Purdue's 47. Despite trailing, their resolve was evident as they entered the second half with determination. The home team managed to outscore their opponents by one point in this period, tallying 40 points against Purdue's 37.

Michigan's offense was spearheaded by their accuracy from beyond the arc where they shot an impressive 43 percent compared to Purdue's more modest rate of 29 percent. Their sharpshooting yielded nine three-pointers throughout the contest. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Purdue’s balanced attack which saw them dominate inside with a total of 44 points in paint and capitalize on second-chance opportunities contributing another significant chunk of their score with 24 second-chance points.
