Cornhuskers' Rally Falls Short Against Terrapins at Xfinity Center

In a conference game that saw the Nebraska Cornhuskers fall to the Maryland Terrapins, the final score read 73-51 in favor of the home team. The Cornhuskers now stand with an additional loss to their record, while the Terrapins celebrate another victory. The game unfolded at the Xfinity Center in College Park, where 15,481 fans witnessed a battle that included three lead changes and was tied once.

Nebraska Cornhuskers VS Maryland Terrapins

The Nebraska Cornhuskers started strong with 27 points in the first half but couldn't maintain their momentum, adding only 24 more in the second. Despite their efforts, they were outpaced by a determined Maryland squad who put up an impressive 44 points initially and followed up with another 29 after halftime. The Cornhuskers showcased resilience on defense with three blocks and five steals but struggled offensively against a tough Terrapins defense that managed five blocks of its own.

Nebraska's shooting from beyond the arc was a highlight as they hit ten three-pointers at an impressive rate of 48 percent. However, their overall field goal percentage stood at just 40 percent compared to Maryland's slightly better mark of 41 percent. Free throws also proved challenging for Nebraska; they made seven out of twelve attempts which translated into a modest free throw percentage of just under sixty.

Rebounding was another area where Nebraska faced challenges; they grabbed only twenty-five boards throughout the game – twenty-one defensively and four offensively – significantly less than Maryland's total rebound count of forty-three. This disparity contributed to Maryland scoring thirty points in paint compared to Nebraska's twelve and eighteen second-chance points against Nebraska’s five.

The turnover battle was equally tough for Nebraska as they committed eighteen turnovers leading to eight points for Maryland while managing only eight points themselves from turnovers caused by their defense. Their assist-to-turnover ratio stood at just over half (0.59), whereas Maryland demonstrated better ball control with an assists turnover ratio exactly double that (2).

Looking ahead, fans can catch The Nebraska Cornhuskers back on court when they host Wisconsin Badgers at Pinnacle Bank Arena located in Lincoln on February 1st at 7:30 PM local time (Central Time). This upcoming match will be broadcast nationally on BTN channel number six hundred ten for those eager to follow along from home or elsewhere.
