New Mexico Lobos and Wyoming Cowboys Clash in Men's Basketball at The Pit

As the New Mexico Lobos prepare to host the Wyoming Cowboys at The Pit in Albuquerque, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be a riveting contest. With the game scheduled for January 7th, it's time to delve into what we can expect from this matchup.

Wyoming Cowboys VS New Mexico Lobos

The Lobos have been on a commendable run, showcasing their prowess on both ends of the court. Their recent victory against UC Irvine Anteaters on December 21st was a testament to their offensive capabilities, as they put up an impressive 78 points. Their shooting from inside the paint was particularly effective, contributing significantly to their scoring with 34 points coming from that area alone. Moreover, their defensive efforts cannot be overlooked; they managed to snag 9 steals and block 5 shots.

In another notable performance against New Mexico State Aggies on December 16th, UNM demonstrated resilience by securing a narrow win with a scoreline of 73-72. This game highlighted their ability to maintain composure under pressure and capitalize on turnovers – an aspect that could prove crucial against Wyoming.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for UNM; despite winning against Santa Clara Broncos with an impressive score of 93-76 back on December 9th, there were areas that needed improvement. While they excelled in points off turnovers and second-chance points during this game – thanks largely due to their aggressive defense leading to 18 steals – there is room for better ball-handling considering they turned over possession themselves on multiple occasions.

Looking ahead at the upcoming clash with Wyoming Cowboys, one can't help but feel optimistic about UNM's chances given their recent form. However, basketball is unpredictable and resting on laurels isn't something Coach Weir’s squad can afford. The Cowboys will come prepared and looking to exploit any weaknesses shown by UNM in past games.

The key for UNM will be maintaining defensive intensity without compromising ball security while continuing their dominance inside the paint offensively. If they manage this balance effectively as seen in previous outings – especially considering how well-rounded they've been playing lately – fans can expect another exhilarating performance come game night.

Lobo enthusiasts should mark their calendars for January 7th when these two teams face off at The Pit at local time (8:00 PM MST). For those unable to attend in person, CBS Sports Network will broadcast all the action live (channel number:221), ensuring no one misses out on what promises to be an enthralling encounter between these conference rivals.
