Lobos Look to Tame Runnin' Rebels at Thomas & Mack Center

As the New Mexico Lobos prepare to face off against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center, fans are buzzing with anticipation. The Lobos have been on a tear recently, and their upcoming clash in Las Vegas is shaping up to be a showdown worth watching.

UNLV Rebels VS New Mexico Lobos

The Lobos come off an impressive victory over the Wyoming Cowboys on January 7th, where they dominated with a final score of 77-60. This performance was highlighted by their tenacious defense that racked up 16 steals and forced 23 turnovers, converting those into a significant 28 points off turnovers. Their fast break game was also on point, contributing 16 points to their tally.

In contrast, when they faced the Colorado State Rams earlier this month (January 3rd), despite putting up a good fight and showcasing sharpshooting from beyond the arc with a three-point percentage of 47 percent, they fell short by eight points in an intense battle ending at 68-76. However, it's worth noting that even in defeat, UNM displayed strong teamwork with an impressive count of assists.

Looking back further into December (30th), UNM's encounter with Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds saw them cruise to victory with an overwhelming scoreline of 87-54. That night at The Pit was all about offensive prowess as they shot effectively from both inside and outside while maintaining control throughout the game.

UNM's recent performances suggest that they have found a rhythm in both offense and defense. Their ability to force turnovers and convert them into easy baskets will be crucial against UNLV. Moreover, if they can maintain their shooting efficiency from downtown as seen against CSU while keeping up their defensive intensity demonstrated versus Wyoming and Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds – it could spell trouble for the Runnin' Rebels.

The key for UNM will be consistency; maintaining high levels of play across both halves is essential for securing another win on enemy territory. With players stepping up across different facets of the game – whether it’s sinking threes or snatching steals – there’s no doubt that this team has depth.

Fans should mark their calendars for January 9th at 8:30 PM when these two teams collide in Las Vegas. It promises to be an electrifying match-up between two competitive sides looking to assert dominance early in January.
