Clash at The Pit: New Mexico Lobos Set to Host Air Force Falcons in High-Stakes Duel

As the New Mexico Lobos prepare to defend their home court against the Air Force Falcons, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be a riveting encounter at The Pit. The Lobos, who have been demonstrating a mix of resilience and skill in recent games, are expected to bring their A-game once again.

In their last game on February 11th against the Runnin' Rebels, the Lobos fell just short with a score of 77-80. Despite this loss, there were positive takeaways that suggest they could bounce back stronger. Their defense was particularly impressive; they racked up 9 blocks and managed to steal the ball 6 times. Offensively, while shooting from beyond the arc was a strong suit with a solid 40 percent three-point percentage, they struggled inside with only 33 percent on two-point attempts.

The previous away game on February 7th showcased an offensive masterclass by UNM as they overpowered the Cowboys with an imposing scoreline of 91-73. Their balanced attack saw them shoot at an efficient rate from both inside and outside while also sharing the ball effectively as evidenced by their assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.45.

Against Boise State Broncos on February 1st at home, UNM's performance was gritty but not enough for victory as they lost narrowly by eight points (78-86). They excelled at free throws making an impressive 90 percent but struggled from downtown hitting only 28 percent of three-pointers.

Looking ahead to facing AFA, it's clear that UNM has areas where they can capitalize. If they can maintain their defensive intensity and improve their interior scoring efficiency shown in past performances while keeping up their free throw accuracy and perimeter shooting from better outings like against Wyoming Cowboys, then victory is within reach.

The Falcons should not be underestimated though; any team coming into The Pit will be looking to make a statement. However, based on recent form and statistics alone – especially considering UNM’s ability to create fast break opportunities – it seems likely that New Mexico will have too much firepower for Air Force come game day.

Fans eager for action can mark their calendars for February 24th when these two teams face off at The Pit in Albuquerque at precisely 2:00 PM local time (Mountain Time Zone). This high-stakes duel will be broadcasted nationally on CBS Sports Network channel number two hundred twenty-one ensuring no one misses out on what is sure to be an enthralling contest between these conference rivals.
