New Mexico Lobos Overpower Air Force Falcons in Commanding Victory

The New Mexico Lobos and the Air Force Falcons faced off in a game that ended with a decisive 82-56 victory for the Lobos. The win-loss record for the New Mexico team now stands at an impressive number-number, while the Falcons' record takes a hit with another notch in their loss column.

New Mexico Lobos VS Air Force Falcons

From tip-off, it was clear that the New Mexico Lobos were on a mission to dominate. The home team's offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing an impressive 49 points by halftime and adding another 33 in the second half. Their shooting was efficient throughout, hitting 47 percent from the field and an outstanding 92 percent from the free-throw line.

The Lobos' defense also played a crucial role in their victory. They managed to block four shots and steal possession nine times over the course of play. This defensive pressure contributed to turning over the ball fourteen times for their opponents, which translated into twenty points off turnovers for UNM.

In terms of rebounds, UNM showed superior control under both baskets with forty-five total rebounds compared to twenty-five by AFA. Of those forty-five rebounds by UNM, fifteen were offensive boards leading to twelve second-chance points which helped maintain their lead throughout.

Assists were another area where UNM excelled; they dished out twenty-one assists demonstrating strong teamwork and fluid ball movement against AFA's thirteen assists. This facilitated better shot opportunities and allowed them to maintain control of game tempo.

A standout statistic that reflects UNM's dominance is their assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.33 compared to just 1 for AFA – showcasing better decision-making and ball-handling skills throughout gameplay.

On offense, AFA managed only fifty-six points against a tough Lobo defense with seven three-pointers made out of twenty-eight attempts (25 percent). They shot fifty-nine percent on two-point attempts but struggled from beyond the arc as well as from free throw line where they made nine out of thirteen (69 percent).

Despite being able to block six shots equaling UNM's blocked attempts count and matching them with six steals as well, it wasn't enough to disrupt UNM’s flow or overcome their own fourteen turnovers which cost them valuable possessions.

Looking ahead after this commanding performance by New Mexico Lobos basketball team at Thomas & Mack Center will be facing Boise State Broncos next at this same venue on March 14th at 9:30 PM local time (Pacific Time Zone). Fans can catch all action live on CBS Sports Network as both teams compete once again on court.
