Clash at Bernard Johnson Coliseum: New Mexico State Aggies vs Sam Houston State Bearkats

As the New Mexico State Aggies prepare to face off against the Sam Houston State Bearkats at Bernard Johnson Coliseum, fans are eager to see if the Aggies can bounce back from their recent performance. The last time they hit the court on December 23, 2023, against Tulsa's Golden Hurricane, they fell short with a final score of 59-65. Despite leading by five points at halftime, their second-half efforts weren't enough to secure a win.

The Aggies' statistics from that game reveal both strengths and weaknesses. They excelled in free throw accuracy with an impressive 90 percent but struggled from beyond the arc with only a 15 percent success rate for three-pointers. Their rebounding was strong with a total of 41 rebounds; however, turnovers were an issue as they gave up possession 15 times.

In contrast, during their December 20 matchup against Stephen F. Austin's Lumberjacks, although losing by just three points (72-75), the Aggies showed improvement in three-point shooting hitting at a rate of 40 percent and maintaining solid free throw performance at 75 percent. Yet again turnovers were problematic as they matched their previous number of giveaways.

However, it's worth noting that when playing on home turf against New Mexico Lobos on December 16, NMSU demonstrated resilience and offensive prowess by sinking nearly half of their field goals and converting an impressive nine out of twenty attempts from deep for a final scoreline that read in favor of NMSU -72-73-. This shows that when NMSU finds rhythm in offense combined with defensive tenacity – reflected in ten steals – they can be formidable opponents.

Looking ahead to January 26th’s game against SHSU Bearkats who will have home-court advantage this time around; it is crucial for NMSU to tighten up ball handling and reduce turnovers while capitalizing on scoring opportunities inside the paint where they've shown efficiency previously. If they manage to replicate or improve upon their shooting percentages seen against UNM while maintaining defensive pressure resulting in steals and fast-break points as seen before – there is no reason why victory cannot be within reach for them.

Fans should mark their calendars for this exciting encounter scheduled for January 26th at Bernard Johnson Coliseum set to tip-off at 8:00 PM CT. The game will be broadcasted nationally on CBS Sports Network channel number two hundred twenty-one ensuring supporters won’t miss any action regardless of where they are.
