The New Mexico State Aggies faced a tough challenge against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the Conference USA - Quarterfinal 4, ending with a score of 89-69. The New Mexico State team's record now stands at 0-1 for this matchup, while Western Kentucky advances with a record of 1-0.

New Mexico State Aggies VS Western Kentucky Lady Toppers

The Aggies started off strong in the first half, putting up 29 points to their opponents' 40. However, it was during the second half where they truly tried to mount their comeback, scoring an impressive 40 points. Despite their efforts and a more productive second half, they were unable to close the gap created by Western Kentucky's consistent performance throughout both halves.

New Mexico State showed determination on both ends of the court. They managed to block five shots and steal possession four times from their opponents. Their offensive efforts were led by sinking six three-pointers at a rate of thirty-three percent from beyond the arc and converting fifty percent of their two-point attempts into scores.

However, free throws proved challenging for New Mexico State as they only made seven out of sixteen attempts, resulting in forty-four percent accuracy from the line – a statistic that likely impacted their ability to keep pace with Western Kentucky's scoring momentum. In terms of ball handling, they turned over possession twelve times but also recorded eight assists throughout the game.

On defense, New Mexico State pulled down thirty-six rebounds – twenty-five defensive and eleven offensive – which included three team rebounds. This rebounding effort was just one shy of matching Western Kentucky's total rebounds count at thirty-seven.

Western Kentucky capitalized on turnovers better than New Mexico State did; scoring thirteen points off turnovers compared to just three by NMSU. Additionally, Western Kentucky outperformed NMSU in fast break situations with thirteen fast break points versus two by NMSU.

Despite these challenges faced by New Mexico State Aggies during this quarterfinal match-up at Von Braun Center before an attendance crowd numbering two thousand three hundred thirty-three fans; it is clear that every player left everything on court until final buzzer sounded marking end game time without any remaining timeouts for Aggies while Hilltoppers had three still available.

As fans look forward to future broadcasts featuring New Mexico State basketball action; there is no doubt that lessons learned from this intense quarterfinal will be used as fuel for growth and improvement moving forward into next season’s games.
