Wolfpack's Effort Falls Short Against Cavaliers in Overtime at John Paul Jones Arena

In a contest that extended beyond regulation, the North Carolina State Wolfpack faced a challenging opponent in the Virginia Cavaliers. The Wolfpack, unable to secure victory, concluded with a score of 53-59. The North Carolina State team's record now stands at 0-1 as they opened their season with this hard-fought battle against the Cavaliers.

North Carolina State Wolfpack VS Virginia Cavaliers

The game was fiercely competitive from start to finish, with both teams displaying tenacity on defense. The Wolfpack managed to block 7 shots and steal the ball 10 times from their opponents. However, despite these efforts and leading by as much as during the game, they could not maintain their advantage throughout.

Offensively, North Carolina State struggled to find consistency in their shooting but showed determination inside the paint with 30 points coming from that area. They attempted 49 two-pointers but only converted them at a rate of 37 percent. From beyond the arc, they made just four out of fourteen attempts resulting in a three-point shooting percentage of 29 percent. Free throws were one area where they excelled; hitting five out of six for an impressive rate of 83 percent.

The rebounding battle was also tough for North Carolina State as they grabbed a total of 32 rebounds compared to Virginia's commanding presence on the boards with 54 rebounds. Despite this disparity, North Carolina State fought hard defensively and ended up forcing more turnovers than Virginia – nine compared to fifteen – which led directly to scoring an additional fourteen points off those opportunities.

As time wound down in overtime after both teams had scored an equal number of points during regular play periods (47 each), it was clear that every possession would count. Unfortunately for fans of North Carolina State, it was Virginia who managed to pull away slightly in overtime scoring twelve points against six by NCST.

Looking ahead after this intense matchup, fans can catch the next game featuring North Carolina State Wolfpack when they visit Syracuse Orange at JMA Wireless Dome on January 27th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time broadcasted nationally on ACC Network channel number six hundred twelve.
