Clash at UNT Coliseum: North Texas Mean Green Host SMU Mustangs

As the North Texas Mean Green prepare to face off against the SMU Mustangs at the UNT Coliseum, fans are buzzing with anticipation. The Mean Green's recent performance suggests that they are in a prime position to dominate their upcoming game.

Looking back at their last home game on December 23 against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, UNT showcased an impressive offensive display, racking up 78 points with a field goal percentage of 53 and a three-point percentage of 44. Their defensive prowess was equally notable, as they managed to secure 9 steals and block 3 shots. This level of play is not just commendable; it's downright intimidating for any team that steps onto their court.

The Mean Green's ability to capitalize on turnovers was particularly striking in that game, scoring 23 points off turnovers compared to the Mavericks' mere 5. With an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.3, it's clear that UNT has been working hard on maintaining possession and creating scoring opportunities.

However, not every game has been smooth sailing for UNT. On December 17 against Mississippi State Bulldogs at Cadence Bank Arena, they struggled with turnovers themselves—16 in total—and only managed to score two points off turnovers. Despite this setback and a lower field goal percentage of just over 38 percent during that away game, it’s important to note how resiliently they bounced back in their subsequent matches.

Their resilience was tested once again when facing Fordham Rams on December 10 at Barclays Center where both teams ended up with similar stats across the board but ultimately fell short by one point in a nail-biting finish.

The key takeaway from these past performances is consistency and adaptability—the Mean Green have shown time and again that they can bounce back from less stellar outings with stronger showings immediately after.

With this pattern of resilience and high-scoring games following any dips in performance, fans should feel confident about UNT’s chances against SMU Mustangs. The team has demonstrated an ability to learn from each outing and come back stronger—a trait that will serve them well as they defend their home court advantage.

Supporters should mark their calendars for January 26th when these two teams collide under the lights of UNT Coliseum at Denton TX starting at midnight GMT (7 PM local time). For those unable to attend in person, ESPN2 will be broadcasting all the action live on channel number two hundred nine—ensuring no one misses out on what promises to be another thrilling chapter in North Texas Mean Green basketball history.
