In what was a closely fought battle at UNT Coliseum, the home team displayed commendable effort but fell short by five points against their opponents. The Mean Green started strong with 31 points in the first half but couldn't maintain their momentum, adding only 24 more in the second half. Despite this setback, North Texas showcased a solid defense with nine steals and matched South Florida's four blocks.

The offensive efforts of North Texas were led by an aggressive push in the paint resulting in 26 points from close range shots. Their shooting accuracy from within the arc stood at 42 percent and they made five three-pointers out of fifteen attempts for a 33 percent success rate from downtown. At the free-throw line, they secured 14 baskets on 22 attempts which translated to a respectable completion rate of approximately 64 percent.

On rebounding duties, North Texas grabbed a total of twenty-eight rebounds; twenty-two defensively and six on offense which contributed to seven second-chance points. However, it was not enough to overcome South Florida's thirty-seven rebounds that included eight offensive boards leading to nine second-chance points for them.

One notable aspect where North Texas excelled was capitalizing on turnovers; they scored fifteen points off turnovers compared to just two by South Florida thanks largely due to their higher steal count.
