Looking back at the December 21 game against Arizona State Sun Devils, NW displayed a dominant performance, outrebounding their opponents 41-31 and shooting an impressive 47 percent from the field. Their defensive prowess was on full display as they held the Sun Devils to just 46 points, showcasing their ability to shut down opposing offenses.

The December 16 matchup against DePaul Blue Demons further highlighted NW's defensive capabilities. They managed an assist-turnover ratio of 2.0, indicating efficient ball movement and smart playmaking. Despite shooting only 36 percent from beyond the arc, their free throw accuracy was exceptional at nearly 86 percent.

However, it's important not to overlook Northwestern's narrow victory over Chicago State Cougars on December 14. The two-point win showed resilience but also exposed some vulnerabilities in dealing with high-pressure situations as both teams ended up with equal turnovers.

The upcoming game against Maryland is expected to test NW's limits once again. The Terrapins will come into this game looking for an upset and will rely heavily on their ability to disrupt Northwestern’s rhythm. It’s crucial for NW players not only maintain composure but also capitalize on home-court advantage where crowd support can become a significant factor.

Fans should expect Northwestern Wildcats' defense to be the cornerstone of this matchup while looking for more fluidity in offense compared with previous games. Rebounding will be critical; dominating boards could very well dictate which direction this game swings.

Mark your calendars for January 17th when these two teams clash under the lights of Welsh-Ryan Arena at 9:00 PM EST (8:00 PM CST).
