Eagles Soar Past Fighting Irish in Nail-Biter at Purcell Pavilion

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish faced off against the Boston College Eagles in a closely contested battle that ended with a 61-58 victory for the visitors. The Fighting Irish now stand with an even record, while the Eagles improved their tally.

In a game that saw seven lead changes and was tied seven times, it was ultimately the Eagles who managed to secure the win. The first half ended with both teams locked at 23 points each, setting up a tense second half. Despite strong efforts from the home side, Boston College outscored Notre Dame by three points in the latter half to clinch their win.


The Notre Dame Fighting Irish showcased resilience throughout the match. They were particularly impressive from the free-throw line, converting 86 percent of their attempts into points. Their defensive efforts resulted in four blocks and seven steals over the course of play. However, they struggled with field goals, making only 36 percent of their attempts and falling short on three-pointers at a rate of 31 percent.


Notre Dame's rebounding was evenly matched with Boston College's as both teams grabbed 32 rebounds each; however, personal rebounds were slightly higher for Notre Dame at 30 compared to Boston College's 27. The home team also capitalized on second-chance opportunities by scoring 13 second-chance points.


On offense, Notre Dame made sure to distribute playmaking duties which led to ten assists but faced challenges maintaining possession as evidenced by their thirteen turnovers and an assist-to-turnover ratio below one (0.83). Points in paint were another area where they lagged behind their opponents, scoring just fourteen compared to twenty-six by Boston College.


Boston College’s performance was marked by better shooting efficiency from both two-point range (47 percent) and beyond the arc (40 percent). Their fast break execution contributed eleven fast break points to their total score. Defensively they managed eight steals and three blocks while committing fewer personal fouls than Notre Dame (14 vs. 15).
