The Ohio State Buckeyes entered halftime trailing with 23 points to the Scarlet Knights' 20 but picked up momentum in the second half by adding another 34 points. However, it was not enough as they scored only seven points in overtime compared to Rutgers' 11. Despite their efforts, which included sinking eight three-pointers at a notable rate of 38 percent from beyond the arc and achieving an impressive free throw percentage of 83 percent on twelve attempts, it was not sufficient for victory.

The Buckeyes showcased their defensive skills with four blocks and five steals during the game but committed twenty-two personal fouls leading to one player being fouled out. They dominated rebounds with forty-six in total—twenty-nine defensive and thirteen offensive—providing them sixteen second-chance points. Their offense saw them attempt forty-six two-point shots making fifteen for a shooting percentage of approximately thirty-three percent from that range.

On offense for Rutgers Scarlet Knights, sixteen assists were distributed among players contributing to their sixty-eight point finish; they also capitalized on turnovers scoring fourteen points off them. Defensively they surpassed Ohio State with eight blocks and matched their fast-break performance with nine fast-break points.
