First Half


The opening half saw Pitt establishing an early lead with strong defensive plays and effective scoring in the paint. The Panthers managed to outscore Ohio State by 10 points, ending the half at 34-24. The Buckeyes struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 43 percent from the field and only managing two fast break points.


Second Half


Ohio State came back with renewed vigor in the second half, led by standout performances from Devin Royal and Bruce Thornton. Royal contributed significantly with his scoring prowess while Thornton dominated on both ends of the court, securing rebounds and adding crucial points. The Buckeyes improved their shooting accuracy to an impressive 53 percent from two-point range during this period.

Despite these efforts, Pitt maintained composure under pressure. Their ability to capitalize on turnovers proved pivotal as they scored 17 points off turnovers compared to Ohio State's five. This tactical edge allowed them to withstand Ohio State's late surge.

In a game filled with lead changes and ties, it was ultimately decided in its final moments when Pitt held onto their slim advantage despite being outscored by Ohio State in the second half (42-33).
