Sooners Surge Past Hawks with Commanding Second Half at Lloyd Noble Center

The Oklahoma Sooners improved their season record to 12-0 after a convincing victory over the Monmouth Hawks, ending the game with a score of 72-56. The Hawks now stand at an opposite record of 0-12.

In front of a home crowd at the Lloyd Noble Center, the Sooners displayed an impressive performance that saw them pull away in the second half. The team's offensive efficiency was on full display as they shot 48 percent from the field and an even more impressive 59 percent from two-point range. Their defensive prowess was equally notable, limiting their opponents to a mere 36 percent shooting from both the field and beyond the arc.


The Sooners' balanced attack was spearheaded by their ability to share the ball, racking up 21 assists which contributed significantly to their scoring efforts. They also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 16 points off turnovers while maintaining an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.75.


On defense, Oklahoma outrebounded Monmouth with a total of 36 rebounds compared to Monmouth's 31. The Sooners also managed three blocks and eight steals during this encounter, showcasing their ability to disrupt Monmouth's offensive flow.


Monmouth did not go down without a fight; they put up nine points in fast breaks and scored seven second-chance points thanks to their offensive rebounding efforts which amounted to eleven grabs off the glass. However, they struggled with free throws only making five out of eight attempts for a free throw percentage rounded up to about seventy-three percent.


The standout statistic for Oklahoma was its performance in paint where they scored thirty-four points against Monmouth's twenty-four points in paint contributions. Additionally, Oklahoma showed depth in scoring options by adding fourteen second-chance points due largely in part to both team and individual rebounding efforts that led them securing eight offensive rebounds.
