Can Ole Miss Rebound After Starkville Setback at Humphrey Coliseum?

In a heated contest, the Ole Miss Rebels faced off against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, with the Rebels falling 71-83. The Rebels now hold a record of 0-1, while the Bulldogs stand at 1-0.

The game took place at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, where an attendance of 9,381 fans witnessed a dynamic match-up. The first half saw the Rebels put up an impressive 44 points to the Bulldogs' 40. However, despite their early lead and a high free throw accuracy of 90 percent, they couldn't maintain their momentum into the second half.


The Ole Miss team's overall field goal percentage was recorded at 40 percent with a three-point shooting rate of 32 percent. They made six out of nineteen attempts from beyond the arc and had seventeen two-pointers on thirty-eight attempts. Their scoring efforts were bolstered by securing twenty-four points in paint and twelve second-chance points.


Defensively, Ole Miss managed to block two shots and steal possession six times from their opponents. However, they also committed twenty-four personal fouls which led to two players being fouled out. Despite these setbacks, they fought hard on both ends of the court as evidenced by their total rebound count standing at thirty-four; thirteen offensive rebounds contributed significantly to their second-chance opportunities.


On offense, Ole Miss distributed well with twelve assists but struggled with turnovers having seventeen in total which translated into fourteen points for Mississippi State off those turnovers. The assist-to-turnover ratio for Ole Miss stood at a concerning point eight.


Mississippi State capitalized on turnovers scoring twenty-one points off them and dominated inside with forty-two points in paint compared to twenty-four by Ole Miss. With an overall field goal percentage of fifty percent and fifty-two percent for two-pointers specifically; they proved efficient in converting opportunities into scores.


As both teams battled it out on court there were five ties and six lead changes throughout the game indicating how closely contested this match was until Mississippi State pulled away in latter stages.
