The Oregon State Beavers, with a season record of 0-1, faced a challenging contest against the Utah Utes and concluded with a score of 47-74. The Beavers struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game, while the Utes capitalized on their home-court advantage to improve their record to 1-0.
In an intense conference game at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, the Oregon State Beavers were unable to match up against a formidable Utah Utes side. The Beavers managed only 47 points against the Utes' robust defense that held them to a mere 29 percent shooting from the field and an even more dismal 28 percent from two-point range.
The first half saw Oregon State put up 22 points compared to Utah's 33. Despite improving slightly in scoring during the second half with an additional 25 points, it was not enough as Utah extended their lead by adding another impressive tally of 41 points. The home team's offense was firing on all cylinders as they shot at a solid rate of 44 percent from the field and outperformed Oregon State in two-point shots with an impressive accuracy of over half made.
Oregon State did show some defensive resilience by recording seven blocks and matching that number in steals; however, this effort was overshadowed by their inability to contain Utah's offensive plays which resulted in them conceding numerous second-chance points totaling up to seventeen for Utah.
Rebounding was another area where Oregon State fell short; they gathered only thirty-one rebounds throughout the game while allowing fifty-two for Utah – including sixteen offensive boards which further contributed to second-chance opportunities for their opponents.
On offense, free throws were one area where Oregon State performed relatively well making eight out of thirteen attempts translating into sixty-two percent success rate but it wasn't enough when compared against other facets of their gameplay which lacked efficiency.
