Beavers' Effort Falls Short Against Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion

The Oregon State Beavers, with a season record of 0-0 before the game, faced off against the California Golden Bears in a conference game that ended with the Beavers scoring 73 to the Golden Bears' 81. The match took place at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, where both teams fought hard on the court. Despite a strong start by Oregon State, which saw them leading with 43 points to California's 34 at halftime, they couldn't maintain their momentum and were outscored in the second half.

Oregon State Beavers VS California Golden Bears

Oregon State's performance was marked by solid shooting from beyond the arc as they made 10 three-pointers at a rate of 40 percent. Their free throw accuracy was impressive as well; they hit nine out of ten attempts from the line for an excellent free throw percentage of 90 percent. However, their overall field goal percentage stood at just 44 percent with only half of their two-point shots finding their mark.

Defensively, Oregon State managed to block five shots and steal twice during playtime. They also collected a total of 34 rebounds—24 defensive and eight offensive—contributing to several second-chance opportunities that resulted in six points. Despite these efforts, turnovers proved costly for Oregon State as they gave up possession nine times which led to California capitalizing with eleven points off those turnovers.

The Golden Bears showed resilience coming back from behind after halftime by putting up an additional 47 points against Oregon State's defense. They were particularly lethal from long range hitting an impressive rate of three-pointers at nearly half their attempts (48 percent). Their fast break execution was notable too; it contributed eighteen points to their scoreline.

California also demonstrated better ball distribution ending up with seventeen assists compared to ten by Oregon State. This teamwork allowed them not only to overcome a deficit but also finish ahead despite having one less rebound than Oregon State and committing fewer personal fouls throughout the game.

As fans look forward toward future games, attention turns toward another challenging matchup for Oregon State Beavers who will be visiting Stanford Cardinal at Maples Pavilion on February 24th at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. The game will be broadcasted on Pac-12 Network for fans wishing to follow along as it unfolds live from Stanford.
