Panthers' Paint Domination Not Enough Against Sharpshooting Orange

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the Syracuse Orange faced off in a conference game that ended with the scoreboard reading 69-58 in favor of the visitors. The Panthers now stand with a record of 0-1, while the Orange have kicked off their season with a victory, moving to 1-0.

The Petersen Events Center was filled with an energetic crowd of 7,708 spectators who witnessed a game marked by intense competition and tactical plays. Despite falling short on the final score, the Pittsburgh Panthers showcased their strength inside the paint, scoring 30 points against Syracuse's 14. The home team also outrebounded their opponents with a total rebound count of 40 compared to Syracuse's 36.


The Panthers' defensive efforts were notable as they tallied eight blocks over Syracuse's three and managed to steal possession three times during play. However, it was not enough to counteract Syracuse’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc; they hit an impressive ten three-pointers at a remarkable rate of nearly sixty percent accuracy.


Offensively for Pittsburgh, two-point field goals were made at forty-six percent efficiency but struggled from long range making only five out of twenty-six attempts which equates to nineteen percent shooting from three-point territory. Free throw performance also lagged slightly behind at sixty-four percent completion.


Syracuse capitalized on turnovers scoring five points off them while maintaining an assists-to-turnover ratio of about one point four-four. They committed eighteen personal fouls but did not see any player foul out or get ejected from play.
