At the State Farm Center in Champaign, the home crowd of 15,544 witnessed an intense battle where both teams displayed formidable skills and determination. The first half ended with the Fighting Illini ahead at 40-34; however, the Boilermakers turned the tables in the second half by adding 43 points to their score while holding their opponents to just 31 points.

Their free throw shooting was also solid at a rate of 71 percent. On defense, they managed to block two shots and steal five times from their opponents.

A key aspect of Purdue's success was their ability to distribute the ball effectively as evidenced by their total of twenty assists which contributed significantly to their scoring opportunities. Moreover, they capitalized on turnovers by scoring seven points off them and maintained a healthy assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.5.


Rebounding played a crucial role in this matchup as well; Purdue secured thirty-one rebounds including ten offensive boards that led to fifteen second-chance points – critical factors that helped tilt the game in their favor.

On Illinois' side despite outperforming Purdue inside with forty points in paint compared to thirty-two for Purdue they struggled from three-point range making only four out seventeen attempts resulting in just twenty-five percent accuracy which ultimately hindered them when trying catch up late during match-up
