First Half

In the first half, the Wolverines took control early on, establishing a significant lead by scoring 48 points compared to Purdue's 32. The Maize and Blue showcased their offensive prowess with an impressive field goal percentage of 53 percent. Their ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities was evident as they scored 16 points from such plays.

On the other hand, Purdue struggled to find their rhythm offensively in this period. Despite Trey Kaufman-Renn's efforts, who contributed significantly with his rebounding skills and scoring ability from previous games, the Boilers couldn't keep pace with Michigan’s fast break points totaling up to 10.

Second Half

The second half saw a spirited comeback attempt by Purdue as they outscored Michigan by six points in this segment of play. Braden Smith emerged as a key player for the Boilers during this period, contributing both defensively and offensively with his quick steals and assists that helped narrow down Michigan’s lead.

However, despite their best efforts and increased efficiency in free throws at an impressive rate of 90 percent overall for the game, it wasn't enough for Purdue to overcome Michigan’s well-rounded performance which included strong bench contributions totaling up to 34 points.

Final Outcome

Ultimately, it was not just one factor but rather multiple elements that led to Michigan maintaining their edge throughout most parts of this encounter – including superior shooting accuracy from beyond-the-arc where they achieved a remarkable three-point percentage of 56 percent compared against Purdue’s lower conversion rate from similar attempts.
