Rice Owls Narrowly Outscored at Moody Center by Texas Longhorns

In a closely contested encounter at the Moody Center, the Rice Owls fell short against the Texas Longhorns with a final score of 87-81. The Rice Owls now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Longhorns improved to 1-0.

The game was a nail-biter from start to finish, with both teams displaying remarkable offensive skills. The first half ended with the Rice Owls slightly ahead at 33 points compared to the Longhorns' 29. However, as play resumed, it was evident that both teams were eager to take control of the game. By the end of regulation time, each team had added significantly to their tallies, forcing an overtime showdown after ending tied.


During overtime, it was clear that every possession would count. The Rice Owls managed to put up nine points in this crucial period but were outdone by the Longhorns who scored fifteen points in overtime alone.

On rebounds front, they secured thirty-nine in total which included eleven offensive rebounds contributing second chance opportunities resulting seven second chance points for team's effort on court.


Despite these commendable efforts by Rice players including scoring thirty-two points inside paint area and maintaining an assist-to-turnover ratio above one (1.13), it wasn't enough against a strong Texas side who edged them out in fast break points (14) and capitalized more effectively on turnovers scoring thirteen points off turnovers compared to seven by Rice team.
