Sam Houston State Bearkats Set to Conquer at Pete Mathews Coliseum

As the Sam Houston State Bearkats gear up for their next challenge against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, fans are eager to see if their team can bounce back from a recent string of tough games. The Bearkats' performance has been a roller coaster ride, but there's reason to believe that they could turn the tide in the upcoming clash at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Sam Houston State Bearkats VS Jacksonville State Gamecocks

In their last outing on December 21 against Grand Canyon Antelopes, SHSU fell short despite a valiant effort. They put up 64 points and showed promise with an impressive 53 percent shooting from two-point range and an 18-point contribution from fast breaks. However, turnovers were a glaring issue as they gave up possession 16 times which translated into only 12 points off turnovers for them compared to the Antelopes' 19.

The game before that on December 16 saw SHSU hosting Texas State Bobcats where they managed only 60 points in front of their home crowd. Their three-point shooting was lackluster at just 21 percent and turnovers continued to plague them with another tally of 16. Despite these setbacks, there were positives: an efficient free-throw percentage at 80 percent and a decent showing in points in paint with a total of 34.

Looking further back to December 13 against Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, SHSU eked out a narrow victory by just one point. Their defense stepped up with seven steals and two blocks while managing to keep turnovers down to nine – an improvement worth noting.

The key takeaway for SHSU is consistency; they've shown flashes of brilliance but have struggled to maintain it throughout games. The upcoming game will test their ability not only physically but mentally as well; can they keep composure under pressure?

For Jacksonville State Gamecocks, this game presents an opportunity as well – capitalizing on SHSU's turnover issues could be pivotal for them. With both teams looking to assert dominance early on, expect this matchup to be fiercely contested from tip-off.

Bearkat fans should mark their calendars for February 9th when Sam Houston takes on Jacksonville State away from home soil.
