San Diego State Aztecs Set to Battle Charleston Cougars at Amway Center

As the San Diego State Aztecs prepare to face off against the Charleston Cougars at the Amway Center, fans are buzzing with anticipation. The Aztecs have been on a commendable run, showcasing their resilience and strategic prowess on the court. Their recent victory in the Mountain West Championship against Utah State Aggies on March 11 is a testament to their tenacity, where they emerged victorious with a score of 62-57.

Saint Katherine Firebirds VS San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs' performance has been characterized by a robust defense and an ability to capitalize on turnovers. Against Utah State Aggies, they managed an assist-turnover ratio of 1.14 while securing 45 rebounds and blocking four shots. This defensive solidity has been consistent throughout their games; for instance, in their semifinal match against San Jose State Spartans on March 11, they boasted five blocks and three steals contributing to their win with a scoreline of 64-49.

Offensively, while there's room for improvement in field goal percentages—31 percent against Utah State Aggies—their free throw accuracy stands out at nearly 77 percent in that game. It's this kind of clutch performance from the line that can make all the difference in close encounters.

The Charleston Cougars should not be underestimated though; any lapse in concentration could be costly for SDSU. The Cougars come into this game with their own set of strengths which could pose challenges for SDSU's defense.

Looking ahead to March 16 at Orlando’s Amway Center, it’s crucial that SDSU maintains its defensive discipline while finding more efficiency from beyond the arc and inside it as well. If they manage to replicate or improve upon their previous performances—especially like that seen during their quarterfinal bout against Colorado State Rams where they had nine blocks—they will stand a good chance of overpowering COFC.

Aztec fans are eager for another display of grit and skill as SDSU aims to continue its march forward this season. With tip-off scheduled for 3:25 PM local time (7:25 PM ET), supporters can catch all the action live on truTV channel number 246.
