Clash at Viejas Arena: San Diego State Aztecs to Battle UNLV Runnin' Rebels in Men's Basketball Showdown

As the San Diego State Aztecs prepare to host the UNLV Runnin' Rebels at Viejas Arena, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be a riveting contest of men's basketball. The SDSU team has been on an impressive trajectory, and their recent performances suggest that they are more than ready to take on their upcoming opponents.

In their last game on December 22 against Stanford Cardinal, the Aztecs demonstrated a robust defense coupled with an aggressive offense, securing a decisive 74-60 victory. Their ability to maintain control of the ball was evident as they limited themselves to only seven turnovers while forcing 16 from Stanford. This discipline could be pivotal against UNLV.

SDSU's shooting accuracy has also been noteworthy; they shot 45 percent from the field and nearly 30 percent from beyond the arc against Stanford. While there is room for improvement in free throw accuracy – having made just over half of their attempts – it’s clear that when it comes to scoring, SDSU can deliver both inside the paint and out.

Another aspect where SDSU has excelled is rebounding. In their encounter with Saint Katherine Firebirds on December 20, they dominated with a total of 50 rebounds compared to Firebirds' mere 25. This kind of rebounding prowess will be crucial in maintaining possession and creating second-chance points against UNLV.

However, it would be remiss not to acknowledge that UNLV will come into this game looking for an upset. They bring their own set of skills and strategies that could challenge SDSU’s winning streak if taken lightly.

The Aztecs have shown resilience under pressure too; when faced with UC Irvine Anteaters earlier in December, they eked out a narrow win by one point despite being tied four times and experiencing five lead changes throughout the game. This ability to stay composed during tight situations might give them an edge over UNLV when crunch time arrives.

Looking ahead at this matchup, one can expect SDSU’s defense will play aggressively as usual while trying to capitalize on every offensive opportunity presented by turnovers or fast breaks. If they can maintain or even improve upon their shooting percentages and continue dominating rebounds as seen in past games, then victory seems within reach for San Diego State University.

Fans eager not only for victory but also thrilling basketball should mark January 6th on their calendars; tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM PST at Viejas Arena in San Diego. The game will also be broadcast nationally on CBS – an opportunity no fan should miss!
