Aztecs Dominate Paint and Perimeter in Convincing Victory Over Runnin' Rebels

The San Diego State Aztecs secured a commanding victory over the Runnin' Rebels with a final score of 72-61. The Aztecs now stand with an improved record, while the Runnin' Rebels face another setback. The game, which took place at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in San Diego, saw the home team take control early and maintain their lead throughout.

The Aztecs showcased a balanced attack against the UNLV defense. With an impressive field goal percentage of 46, they were able to capitalize on their shooting opportunities more efficiently than their opponents who shot 40 percent from the field. The home team's prowess was also evident from beyond the arc where they hit 31 percent of their three-point attempts compared to UNLV's 27 percent.

San Diego State's defensive efforts were equally notable as they tallied nine steals over the course of play, three more than UNLV's total. This defensive pressure contributed to a total of 17 turnovers for UNLV, which the Aztecs converted into 13 points off turnovers. In contrast, SDSU managed to keep their own turnovers down to just one team turnover.

On the rebounding front, SDSU outperformed UNLV with a total rebound count of 38 against UNLV's 28. This included ten offensive rebounds for SDSU which led to ten second-chance points; meanwhile, UNLV managed nine offensive boards resulting in eleven second-chance points.

Free throws proved crucial for SDSU as well; converting at an impressive rate of 77 percent from the line helped them build and sustain their lead throughout both halves. On the other hand, free throw shooting was less fruitful for UNLV who made only seven out of twelve attempts.

A key factor in this matchup was San Diego State’s ability to draw fouls without committing too many themselves – they committed only seventeen personal fouls while drawing twenty-four from UNLV players leading to two foulouts on that side.

Looking ahead after this conference game win under full coverage and before an attendance matching Viejas Arena’s capacity crowd of 12,414 fans – all eyes are set on what comes next for San Diego State Aztecs basketball team: They will be visiting Provident Credit Union Event Center in San Jose on January ninth at eight PM Pacific Time where they'll face off against San Jose State Spartans. Fans can catch this upcoming game broadcasted nationally by CBS Sports Network on channel two hundred twenty-one.
