Can the Aztecs Maintain Their Home Court Dominance?

The San Diego State Aztecs continued their impressive season with a commanding victory over the Utah State Aggies, 81-67. The Aztecs, unranked nationally, showed no signs of intimidation against the 17th ranked Aggies. The home team's record now stands at an impressive tally while the Aggies fell to a respectable mark after this encounter.

In front of a packed Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl with an attendance of 12,414 spectators, the game saw four times tied and four lead changes, indicating a competitive matchup. However, it was the San Diego State Aztecs who capitalized on their opportunities and took control as the game progressed.


The Aztecs showcased a balanced offensive and defensive performance. They shot an efficient 47 percent from the field compared to Utah State's 41 percent. From beyond the arc, they were particularly lethal, hitting nine out of twenty attempts for an impressive 45 percent three-point shooting rate. This contrasted sharply with Utah State's six out of twenty-three attempts from deep for just 26 percent.


On defense, San Diego State notched up five blocks and eight steals which were pivotal in disrupting Utah State's rhythm. Moreover, they capitalized on turnovers scoring fifteen points off them while only giving up eleven points from their own turnovers.


Rebounding was another area where San Diego State excelled; they grabbed thirty-nine rebounds including nine offensive boards that led to fifteen second-chance points – demonstrating their tenacity on both ends of the court.


Free throws also played a key role in this contest; although shooting only seventy-one percent from the line compared to eighty-five by Utah State – San Diego made twenty free throws which contributed significantly to their final score margin.
