Aztecs Outpace Rams in a Show of Dominance at Viejas Arena

The San Diego State Aztecs improved their record to 1-0 after a commanding victory over the Colorado State Rams with a final score of 71-55. The Rams, on the other hand, faced a setback as their record now stands at 0-1.

In an impressive display at Viejas Arena, the Aztecs showcased their dominance on both ends of the court. The home team's defensive efforts were particularly noteworthy as they tallied five blocks and eight steals, disrupting the Rams' offensive flow. On offense, San Diego State was efficient inside the paint with 34 points contributing significantly to their total score.

The Aztecs' shooting accuracy was superior throughout the game. They shot an impressive 51 percent from two-point range and maintained a solid overall field goal percentage of 44 percent. Their prowess from beyond the arc was not left unnoticed either; despite shooting only 29 percent from three-point land, they managed to sink five crucial shots that kept momentum on their side.

Free throws often play a critical role in basketball games and this matchup was no exception. The Aztecs capitalized on their opportunities at the charity stripe by converting 18 out of 25 attempts, resulting in a free throw percentage of approximately 72 percent which contributed to keeping them ahead.

Rebounding is another key aspect where San Diego State excelled; they outrebounded Colorado State by nearly double – grabbing an outstanding total of 46 rebounds compared to just 24 for Colorado State. This included securing thirteen offensive boards which led to eleven second-chance points.

The team's ball distribution also deserves praise as they recorded fourteen assists over sixteen turnovers – demonstrating effective ball movement against tough defense by Colorado State who had twelve assists but committed thirteen turnovers themselves.

While Colorado State did show resilience with twenty points scored in the paint and converting eight three-pointers for an overall three-point shooting percentage around thirty-two percent, it wasn't enough against San Diego's staunch defense and more balanced attack.

As fans look forward to future matchups, attention turns towards San Diego State's next game scheduled against New Mexico Lobos at Viejas Arena in San Diego on February 16th at seven PM Pacific Time. Fans can catch all action live nationally on Fox Sports one channel two hundred nineteen ensuring no one misses out on what promises be another exciting contest for Aztec supporters.
